Telangana Student Missing in Chicago Since May 2; 'Was Going to Meet Someone in Texas'

An Indian student from Telangana, Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi, has reportedly been missing in Chicago since May 2. The Consulate General of India in the American city said that they are in touch with the police and the Indian diaspora “hoping to reestablish contact” with the 25-year-old.

According to a report in Times of India, Chintakindi is pursuing masters from Concordia University, Wisconsin.

A report in M9.news mentioned that Chintakindi had done his schooling in Hanamkonda, and finished his civil engineering from SR Engineering College in Warangal.

An X user, Kanukuntla PremKumar, who claims to be Chintakindi’s brother, said that the 25-year-old was missing from past five days. He even tagged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in his post.

The TOI report stated that Chintakindi was missing from 4300 block of N Sheridan Rd in Chicago where he resides. The Chicago police in a notice urged the public to provide information to it if the 25-year-old was located.

The publication quoted the student’s father, Ch Sadanandam, a resident of Hanamkonda district, as saying that he spoke to his son on WhatsApp on May 2 afternoon. “He replied he was doing some work. Later on I could not contact him and he is offline,” he was quoted.

The family also spoke to Chintakindi’s roommates, who reportedly told the father that he was going to meet someone from Texas who had come to meet him. “He went to meet them but we do not know who they are,” the family was quoted.

According to the report, Sadanandam wrote to Union minister G Kishan Reddy, urging him to help trace the 25-year-old.

The office of Kishan Reddy, minister for culture, tourism and development of north eastern region, Govt of India in a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs on May 8 urged CGI Chicago to help trace the missing Rupesh, the publication stated.

TOI further quoted Sadanandam as saying that the police in Chicago was informed about Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi going missing. The family also contacted the US Embassy.
