As Pak Hosts Iran's Raisi, Top Govt Source Raps Attempt To Raise Kashmir In Front Of Foreign Guest

As Pakistan hosted Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Monday, Shehbaz Sharif raised the issue of Kashmir during a trip aimed at mending ties after the neighbours traded deadly cross-border strikes earlier this year.

During the joint press conference, Shehbaz said, “I thank you (Raisi) and the people of Iran for raising your voice for Kashmir.” “Pakistan’s Prime Minister has shown clearly that despite any govt in power their main agenda is Kashmir. Pakistan should keep one thing in mind that Kashmir is an unsolved and unresolved issue on their side,” top government sources said.

“After 370 Kashmiri have understood that they were kept in dark by Pakistan. Foreign guests have even not taken the line attempted by Shehbaz Sharif. This is the biggest insult to Pakistan. Pakistan should talk and come to the table and peacefully hand over Kashmir illegally they have captured,” they added.

Though Shehbaz raked up Kashmir, attempting to link the issue with Gaza and Palestine. But no such mention was made by Raisi. This stance is similar to the approach taken by Saudi Arabia which earlier this month appeared to back India’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement with Pakistan.

It urged India and Pakistan to resolve their “outstanding issues” bilaterally. The two nations issued a joint statement after the meeting between Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Pakistan’s PM.

Meanwhile, India continues to reject all actions and statements by Pakistan on matters that are completely internal to India. “There is a greater understanding among countries that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and that the matters related to it are internal to India,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said.
