With just 20 seconds left for the bell to ring in the final round, Holloway managed to produce a legendary buzzer-beater to get the win. He pointed to the centre of the ring to show down against his opponent and the two went on a striking rampage on each other. However, it was Max who came out on top to cement yet another legendary knockout in his career.

Holloway who is one of the role models in the industry sportingly appreciated Gaethje for stepping up in the octagon. During the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, he lit up the crowd by saying, “I’m him, there’s an El-Matador, he is running away from the bull at 145 lbs. Tell him to sign the contract. Spain, Hawaii wherever. I’m right there”.

This was Holloway calling out the current title-holder at the 145lbs division, Ilia Topuria who had won the title after beating Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298. The knockout victory resulted in Holloway winning the 600,000 USD bonus by Dana White at the landmark event.

A title fight against Topuria could be on the cards as Holloway managed to put up an impressive show. However, it remains unclear whether he would get the rematch or whether the former champion, Volkanovski would get first dibs at the title. Nonetheless, the featherweight division has been revitalised making it one of the most entertaining weight classes to watch.
