This week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown featured some blockbuster action, airing live from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. The live event came with all the updates on the company’s upcoming premium live event WWE Backlash which is scheduled to be held in France next week. The show began with AJ Styles and LA Knight squaring off to secure a shot at Cody Rhodes’ WWE Universal Championship. The fans also witnessed a number-one contenders’ match for the WWE Tag Team Titles followed by the main event where Bayley laid her WWE Women’s Championship on the line against Naomi.
AJ Styles becomes number-one contender for Universal Championship
The two finalists of the WWE Undisputed Championship Number One Contender’s Tournament, the ‘Phenomenal’ AJ Styles and LA Knight faced off to begin the action on SmackDown. The match began with Knight taking control of Styles with a headlock but the momentum shifted quickly. Styles returned the favour with the Pele kick before eventually putting the match to bed with the Phenomenal Forearm from the top rope to secure his title shot.
A-Town Down gets brand new tag-team titles
The general manager of WWE SmackDown Nick Aldis came inside the ring with something under the wraps on the podium. He then welcomed Triple H who addressed the crowd while also presenting A-Town Down Under their new Tag Team belts. Following the reveal, Grayson left The Game hanging to shake Austin’s hand. Aldis wasn’t a huge fan of this move as he said that he would make ‘A-Town Clown Under’ disappear if they tried anything cheeky again.
Tiffany Stratons costs Naomi the WWE Women’s Championship
Bayley had her crowning moment at WrestleMania 40 after she defeated her former Damage CTRL partner IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship. She defended the same title on the latest episode of SmackDown against Naomi. The match saw some intense action before Naomi landed the Rear View for a near-pinfall. Bayley soon responded with the Bayley-to-Belly on the announcers’ table but was then attacked by Tiffany Straton. She landed a cheap elbow shot onto the champ to cause a disqualification.

Authors of Pain vs Legado del Fantasma vs New Catch Republic vs Street Profits in the WWE Tag-Team Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Final- Street Profits won the match by pinfall after landing a Sky High/Neckbreaker combination on Angel Garza.
Carlito vs Santos Escobar – Santos Escobar secured a pinfall victory with the Phantom Driver.
Bayley (c) vs Naomi for the WWE Women’s Championship – Bayley won the match by disqualification after Tiffany Stratton hammered the champion with an elbow.
