Passengers aboard a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Ayodhya allegedly had a “harrowing experience” after the aircraft attempted landing twice at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport but couldn’t succeed due to bad weather. The incident took place on April 13 on flight 6E2702.

A passenger aboard the flight took to the microblogging site X and detailed the “harrowing experience”.

“Had a harrowing experience yesterday with @IndiGo6E Flight No. 6E2702 from Ayodhya to Delhi. Scheduled departure time 3:25 p.m. and scheduled arrival time 4:30 pm. Around 4:15 pm the pilot announced that there’s bad weather at

the Delhi Airport and assured that the plane has 45 minutes of Holding Fuel. The pilot attempted landing twice, couldn’t due to bad weather and still wasted lot of time deciding the next course of action,” he wrote.

After failing to land at the Delhi Airport twice, the pilot announced that the flight was diverted to Chandigarh Airport. The flight managed to land at 6:25 pm at Chandigarh after 115 minutes since the announcement of ’45 mins of holding fuel’.

“By that time lot of passengers and one of the crew staff started puking out of panic,” the passenger further said, adding, “Finally the plane managed to land at 6:10 p.m. at Chandigarh Airport after a lapse of 115 minutes since the 45 minutes Holding fuel announcement.”

Passengers upon landing got to know through the crew it had only 2 mins of fuel left as they landed.

“Got to know after landing that we’ve landed in the nick of time with only 1 or 2 minutes of fuel left from the crew staff. What an ordeal it was for the passengers @DGCA @MoCA_GoI kindly enquire if all SOPs were followed or was it the narrowest escape?,” the passenger wrote.

“IndiGo flight 6E 2702 operating between Ayodhya and Delhi on April 13 was diverted to Chandigarh due to bad weather in Delhi. The captain executed a go-around which is in line with the standard operating procedure. This is an absolutely safe maneuver. The aircraft had sufficient fuel at all times to divert to an alternate airport, as per regulations,” IndiGo Spokesperson said.

Due to bad weather, as many as 22 flights were diverted at Delhi’s IGI Airport between 3:00 – 6:30 pm on Saturday. The national capital witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday evening impacting a few flight operations.
