Passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle sales drop 2% and 11%

Commercial vehicle sales have observed a decline of 11% Y-o-Y with 2,20,643 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 2,47,801 units in Q2 FY24.
Passenger vehicle domestic sales observed a drop of 1.8% Y–o-Y in Q2 FY2025 from 10,74,395 units sold in Q2 FY24 in comparison with 10,55,137 units in this financial year, stated SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) report. While exports surged 13.3% from 11,79,008 units sold in Q2 FY24 against 13,35,681 units in Q2 FY25. SIAM on Monday released its monthly and Q2 sales report where it states total sales of the automobile industry has grown 8.9% for Q2 (July to September) FY25 with 66,63,875 units as compared to 61,16,773 units sold in Q2 FY24.

September sales

September domestic sales grew at 13.1% with 24,21,368 units Y-o-Y in FY25 corresponding to 21,41,461 units in FY24. The passenger vehicle segment observed a mute decline of 0.4% Y-o-Y in September month with 3,15,689 units sold in FY25 against 3,16,908 units in FY24.

Commercial vehicle sales

Commercial vehicle sales have observed a decline of 11% Y-o-Y with 2,20,643 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 2,47,801 units in Q2 FY24. Further segregating M&HCVs also dropped 12.2% with 82,409 units sold in Q2 FY25 against 93,874 units in Q2 FY24. LCV sales declined 10.2% with 1,38,234 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 1,53,927 units sold in Q2 FY24.

Two-wheelers

Two-wheeler sales grew 12.6% Y-o-Y with 51,79,349 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 45,98,442 units in Q2 FY24. Among which scooter segment grew 16.9% with 18,32,306 units while the motorcycles segment grew 10.2% with 32,09,965 units sold in Q2 FY25. For the September month, two-wheelers grew 15.8% with 20,25,993 units in FY25 corresponding to 17,49,794 units in FY24.

Three-wheelers

The three-wheeler segment also observed a growth of 6.6% with 2,08,718 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 1,95,819 units in Q2 FY24. SIAM further stated quadricycles reported a decline of 91.1% with 28 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 316 units in Q2 FY24. In September the three-wheeler segment observed a growth of 6.7% with 79,683 units in FY25 against 74,671 units in FY24.

Exports

Passenger vehicle exports grew 6.3% with 1,96,196 units sold in Q2 FY25 against 1,84,598 units Q2 FY24. Commercial vehicle exports grew 16% with 19,990 units sold in Q2 FY25 against 17,239 units Q2 FY24. Three wheeler sales increased 02% with 81,918 units sold in Q2 FY25 corresponding to 81,794 units in Q2 FY24. Two-wheeler sales increased 15.8% from 8,94,591 units sold in Q2 FY24 to 10,35,997 units in Q2 FY25.
