Tesla's autonomous taxi is here, and it's called the Cybercab. Elon Musk unveiled this unique electric vehicle at a private event in California, promising that the production version will cost less than USD 30,000. The Cybercab is an autonomous vehicle with a seating capacity for two people. Though it appears to be similar in size to a Tesla Model 3, aesthetically, it looks like a smaller derivation of the Tesla Cybertruck.

The Cybercab is designed to be a fully autonomous two-seater with a giant luggage compartment at the back. Its headlights and luggage door will remind you of the Cybertruck electric pickup. Tesla has given the Cybercab dihedral doors and wheel covers that resemble a Frisbee. Interestingly, you won't find a charging port anywhere on the bodywork of the Cybercab. This is because, according to Elon Musk, this autonomous taxi can juice up wirelessly.

The Cybercab's cabin is minimalistic. Though it resembles a Cybertruck from the outside, on the inside, you'd see similarities with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. But there is no steering wheel or pedals. What you get are two seats and a sleek dashboard with a Model 3-like central touchscreen. Elon Musk says that the production of the fully autonomous Cybercab will start sometime in 2026.

The Cybercab will remain a US-only model at the time of its initial launch. While all its features are appealing, Tesla would still need approval from US authorities and governing bodies to launch a vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. It would also need to improve its FSD (Full-Self Driving) software. The Tesla FSD has come under scanner multiple times in the past, with Tesla cars running this fully autonomous driving software involved in fatal accidents.
