CM approves plan to incentivise scrapping of old vehicles in city
According to the age-wise classification of deregistered vehicles, there are 1.08 lakh vehicles in the 10-to-15-year category; 16.99 lakh in the 15-to-20-year category; 11.81 lakh in the 20-to25-year category; and 29.84 lakh in the over-25-year category.

Govt has, in a public notice, reiterated that parking overaged vehicles is strictly prohibited in areas just outside houses which are considered public places.

Another alternative is to obtain a no-objection certificate to relocate the vehicle outside NCT of Delhi within one year of its expiry date. After one year of expiry, no NOC will be issued for the overaged vehicle.

Owners of overaged vehicles can also scrap their vehicles through a voluntary vehicle scrapping application at https://vscrap.parivahan.gov.in/ at any nearby registered vehicle scrapping facility.

In a related development, chief minister Atishi has approved Delhi govt's plan to incentivise the scrapping of vehicles. Under this scheme, those who scrap their old cars will receive a discount on Motor Vehicle Tax when they purchase a new vehicle.

A 20% tax discount will be offered on the purchase of non-commercial CNG and petrol vehicles while a 15% tax discount will be provided for diesel vehicles. For commercial vehicles, a 15% tax discount will be available on the purchase of CNG and petrol vehicles and a 10% tax discount for diesel vehicles.
