Maruti Suzuki reports 2% sales increase with 1,84,727 units sold in September

Maruti Suzuki India reported a 2% year-on-year increase in total sales for September, reaching 1,84,727 units. This is up from 1,81,343 units in the same month last year, according to a statement from Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Tuesday. Despite this overall growth, domestic passenger vehicle sales saw a decline of 4%, falling to 1,44,962 units from 1,50,812 units in September 2023.

Mini-segment sales

Sales in the mini segment, which includes the Alto and S-Presso models, increased slightly to 10,363 units compared to 10,351 units in September of the previous year. However, compact car sales, which feature models such as the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR, saw a decline, dropping to 60,480 units from 68,551 units in the same month last year.

Utility vehicle sales

Utility vehicles had a positive performance, with sales rising by 4% to 61,549 units from 59,272 units in September 2023. The utility vehicle category includes models like Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and XL6. The Eeco van also saw an increase in sales, reaching 11,908 units last month, up from 11,147 units in September 2022. Light commercial vehicle Super Carry’s sales rose to 3,099 units as opposed to 2,294 units previously.

Exports

On the export front, Maruti Suzuki India reported an increase as well, with exports standing at 27,728 units last month compared to 22,511 units in the same month last year.
