DSD a IAA Transportation 2024
Drive System Design (DSD), acquired by Hinduja Tech (HT) in December 2022, is set to present advancements in electrified propulsion systems at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, Germany, from September 17-22, 2024. As a prominent engineering consultancy, DSD will demonstrate its latest innovations alongside HT, emphasising cost-effective and reliable product development amid the global shift towards sustainable transportation. With DSD's expertise in electric, hybrid, and conventional powertrains, the collaboration aims to enhance vehicle performance and drive the automotive industry's transition to cleaner energy solutions.

IAA Transportation 2024

At IAA Transportation 2024, DSD will highlight several cutting-edge projects. One key exhibit is the PHEV-DCT Transmission project. This initiative optimises plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) performance by developing a new transmission for a leading European OEM. The transmission features an ultra-wide ratio dual-clutch architecture that maximises fuel efficiency while maintaining a premium driving experience, managed by DSD’s Infinite Control Software platform.

Another notable project is DSD's sustainability enhancement through powder metallurgy. The consultancy's engineering expertise brings material innovation to industry production, ensuring durability, reliability, and efficiency. By using powder metal on high-volume products, costs can be reduced by approximately 15%, and the carbon footprint of the part can be decreased by around 40%. Additionally, DSD is promoting the adoption of soft magnetic compounds in motor design, which offer a combination of superior performance and price stability, setting a new industry standard.

DSD will also present its lubrication testing of e-Axle transmission. Through a unique validation process that combines physical and virtual validation using CAE tools, DSD was able to accelerate the design program for a leading automotive manufacturer. The design performance was evaluated under all possible driving scenarios to ensure efficiency and durability.

The Open Platform Inverter (OPI) SiC will be another featured innovation at the booth. The OPI is a powerful and versatile inverter hardware and open software platform for motor components and motor control IP development. The UK Head of Control Systems, Pedro Zabala, will attend and discuss DSD’s Open Platform Inverter and Infinite Control Software platform, both of which have applications in aerospace, mining vehicles, and class 8 trucks.
