MG Windsor EV launched at INR 9.99 lakh: Pay-per-km plan takes on petrol cars!

MG Motor India has officially launched its much-awaited Windsor EV.
JSW MG Motor India has officially launched its much-awaited Windsor EV at a starting price of INR 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It should be noted that this cost does not include the cost of the battery pack. Besides that, the Windsor EV offers a battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. This program allows buyers to lower their acquisition costs by opting to pay per km for the battery at INR 3.5 per km. Positioned between the MG Comet EV and ZS EV in the company’s electric vehicle lineup, the Windsor EV is named after Windsor Castle. This new EV is essentially a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV sold overseas albeit with a different powertrain.

Pre-bookings for the MG Windsor EV have commenced, with exclusive test drives starting from September 25th. Official bookings open on October 3rd, and deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 12th. The Windsor EV is available in three variants and four colour options. The manufacturer will announce the variant-wise pricing for the model soon.

G Windsor EV: Design and Exterior Features

The Windsor EV sports a distinctive AeroGlide design with a unique MPV-like silhouette, featuring a high-set bonnet and a full-width LED light bar at the front and rear. It also includes vertically stacked LED headlamps and squarish LED tail lamps. There’s also an illuminated MG logo on the front. On the sides, the Windsor features 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and flush door handles. In terms of dimensions, it has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm (the largest in its segment), a width of 1,850 mm, and a height of 1,677 mm.

MG Windsor EV: Interiors and Features

Step inside, and the Windsor EV greets you with Knight Black interiors accented with gold highlights. The car boasts several segment-first features, such as Aero-Lounge seats that provide up to 135-degree multi-step recline, and LED ambient lighting with 256 colour options. It also gets airline-style reclining seats in the second row and a 60:40 rear seat split that expands the spacious 604-litre boot capacity.

One of the major highlights of the interior is a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. It also has wireless smartphone connectivity and voice recognition in six languages. Other features include a digital driver’s display, a 9-speaker audio system, steering-mounted e-shifters, rear AC vents, and power-adjustable seats. The Windsor also includes more than 80 connected car features, such as a digital Bluetooth key with key-sharing functionality, allowing the car to be driven without a physical key.

As for safety, the Windsor EV comes equipped with six airbags as standard and over 35 safety features, including electronic stability control (ESC), all-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

MG Windsor EV: Powertrain and Performance

The MG Windsor EV gets a 38 kWh battery pack, which delivers 136 hp and 200 Nm of peak torque. It provides a range of 331 km. Additionally, MG is offering an assured buyback plan, guaranteeing up to 60 percent of the vehicle's value even after three years. There's also a lifetime warranty on the battery pack and free charging at MG's public charging hubs for one year.
