Uber set to launch its premium service, Uber Black, in Mumbai next week.
Ride-hailing major Uber on Wednesday announced the launch of its flagship product Uber Black, starting with Mumbai next week.

ET had exclusively reported on August 26 about the cab aggregator's plan to bring back its top-of-the-line product Uber Black as Indian consumers spend more for premium experiences.

Under Uber Black, the company will offer a range of features, including higher-end cars and top-rated drivers.

"Uber Black allows for a personalised ride with customisable features like quiet mode, temperature control, and help with luggage. With extended wait times, riders benefit from an additional five-minute pickup window without incurring a waiting fee, offering greater flexibility," the company said in a release.

Prabhjeet Singh, president, Uber India and South Asia, said, “As India’s leading multimodal mobility service, Uber endeavors to cater to the full spectrum of riders, from those seeking affordable rides on two or three wheels to those who desire a truly well-appointed experience in premium vehicles.”

The company had started its India operations in 2013 with Uber Black, under which C-suite cars such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi were available on demand. It later replaced the luxury cars with the likes of Toyota Innova, Honda City and Toyota Corolla. The service was halted a year later.

In an interaction with ET earlier this week, Singh had said that ride-hailing platforms in India do not have enough vehicles to fulfil the fast-growing consumer demand.

“We’re fulfilling less than the total demand that we have on the platform because we still have fewer cars on the platform than would be required to fulfil the demand,” Singh said.
