As of July 31, 2024, Uttar Pradesh has successfully scrapped a total of 18,843 vehicles, including 16,576 govt vehicles and 2,267 private vehicles.
The state govt is driving significant progress in its goal to make Uttar Pradesh a pollution-free state. A key component of this initiative is the effective implementation of the Central govt’s vehicle scrapping policy, aimed at removing old and damaged vehicles from the roads.

Uttar Pradesh currently leads the nation with the highest number of operational Registration and Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) centres. This achievement positions the state ahead of others, including Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has underscored the importance of creating a pollution-free environment as a critical step toward a greener Uttar Pradesh. Under his direction, officials from the transport corporation and the transport department have begun phasing out govt vehicles older than 15 years and are encouraging the scrapping of private vehicles as well. Since the introduction of the Central govt’s scrap policy in 2021, Uttar Pradesh has actively set up RVSF centres across the state to support this initiative.

According to govt data, Uttar Pradesh stands out for its registration and activation of RVSF centres. The state has received 82 applications to operate RVSF centres, with 62 of these being registered.

Currently, 15 centres are operational and 24 more are undergoing testing. In comparison, Haryana has 12 registered centres with 11 operational, Gujarat has five fully functional centres, Madhya Pradesh has six registered centres with four operational, and Maharashtra and Karnataka have three and two operational centres, respectively. As of July 31, 2024, Uttar Pradesh has successfully scrapped a total of 18,843 vehicles, including 16,576 govt vehicles and 2,267 private vehicles. This achievement has earned the state an incentive of INR 221 crore from the Union govt.
