The tech-laden SUV will be the first in the segment to offer a power-assisted tailgate with gesture controls.
Tata Curvv, recently unveiled in both EV and ICE versions, is set to spice up the SUV market with a host of innovative features and a cutting-edge design. Scheduled for launch on August 7 for the EV model, followed by the ICE variant in September, the Curvv promises to outshine its competitors with up to 25 additional features and some unique first-time offerings.

Tata Curvv’s design, showcased in both EV and ICE versions, marks a significant evolution in Tata Motors' own design language. The SUV-coupe style, a first for the Indian mass market, introduces a sleek, sporty look characterized by an LED light strip along the bonnet, split headlights, and a sloping roofline. The body cladding enhances its SUV character.

The tech-laden SUV will be the first in the segment to offer a power-assisted tailgate with gesture controls. Like the Punch EV, the all-electric EV has vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities.

Among the other various features are headlamps and tail lamps with a welcome and goodbye function, flush door handles with welcome lighting, a monostable gear shifter, and a steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, as seen in the recent Tata models. The interior boasts of a 12.3” infotainment screen and a 10.25" instrument cluster, which also displays map navigation.

The audio system includes nine speakers with JBL AudioWorkX technology. Convenience and safety are enhanced with front and rear C-type 45W chargers, a 5-star BNCAP rating, hill descent control, an ESP-based driver doze-off alert, and traffic sign recognition.

The ICE Curvv will be available in three engine options — the new 1.2-litre Turbo GDI showcased at the Auto Expo 2022 and the 1.2-litre turbo and 1.5-litre diesel from the Nexon. The new GDI engine has an output of 123 bhp and 225 Nm of torque, while the 1.2-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel powertrains churn out 118 bhp and 113 bhp, respectively. All three engines will be offered with manual and automatic transmission.

The specifications of the Curvv EV haven’t been revealed yet, but the company has stated that the driving range on a single charge will be around 500 km.

The Curvv EV concept, unveiled in 2022, set the tone for Tata's future vehicles, influencing design updates in the Nexon, Harrier, and Safari models in 2023.

The ICE concept version introduced at the Auto Expo 2023 brought minor adjustments to the EV design, such as an open grille and red styling details, while retaining key elements like flush door handles and connected tail lamps.

Tata Curvv from Bharat Mobility Expo

At the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024, the near-production model of the Curvv ICE was presented, featuring an updated front-end with a fascia similar to the Nexon’s, and new 18-inch dual-tone petal-patterned alloy wheels. The production model maintains the dual-tone petal-patterned alloy wheels, wraparound gloss black cladding, and updates to the grille and front bumper with body-coloured inserts.

Tata Motors' first SUV-coupe in India, the Curvv, is set to make a significant impact on the SUV segment with its combination of innovative features, advanced safety, and striking design. In the Indian market it will soon be joined by another SUV-coupe, Citroen Basalt. It will be interesting to see how the mass market SUV-coupes will fare against each other.
