Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara sells 2 lakh units in 23 months, fastest in mid-SUV segment

Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced that its Grand Vitara SUV has recorded sales of over 2 lakh units in 23 months, the fastest mid-size SUV to achieve this sales figure, highlighting its popularity in the market. Launched in 2022, it combines fuel efficiency with advanced features, a strong road presence, and sophisticated interiors, embodying NEXA’s ‘Create. Inspire.’ philosophy.

According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, “The introduction of the Grand Vitara has been pivotal for us in the SUV segment. This dynamic vehicle has truly demonstrated its excellence by becoming India’s fastest mid-SUV to surpass 2 lakh sales in just 23 months. The Grand Vitara has revolutionized its segment by inspiring customers to make sustainable choices with the Strong Hybrid. The ALLGRIP technology has also resonated well with SUV lovers, furthering our endeavour to promote clean mobility solutions along with an adventurous driving experience. This indeed underscores Grand Vitara’s philosophy of ruling every road.”

Maruti Suzuki has been a pioneer in promoting sustainable automotive solutions, leveraging green fuel and hybrid technologies. The Grand Vitara features innovative powertrain options, including the Strong Hybrid and S-CNG technology. These advancements deliver high fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions, supporting India’s shift towards cleaner transportation.

In Q1 FY25, the Grand Vitara captured a 12% market share, helping to grow the competitive mid-size SUV segment. Banerjee added, “With a market share of 12% in Q1 FY24, the Grand Vitara has not only established our credentials in the hyperactive mid-SUV segment but has also played a crucial role in growing the segment. We are deeply grateful to our community of over 2 lakh customers and are confident this SUV will continue to bring the joy of mobility to many more.”

To showcase its Strong Hybrid Technology, Maruti Suzuki launched a campaign in Q1 FY24 titled “It's unbelievable. It's strong hybrid.” This campaign emphasized the real-world benefits of the Strong Hybrid Technology. The campaign highlighted how the Strong Hybrid technology combines an Internal Combustion Engine with electric motors powered by a lithium-ion battery, allowing up to 60% operation in EV mode for an eco-friendly and quiet driving experience.

The Grand Vitara is designed for excellence on the road, featuring multiple powertrain options to cater to different customer needs. The SUV is equipped with premium features such as a 22.86cm (9”) Smart Play Pro+ entertainment system, Head-Up Display, 360 View Camera, Wireless Charging Dock, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, Clarion® Premium Sound System, and PM 2.5 Air Cabin Filter.

Safety is also a priority for the Grand Vitara. It includes both active and passive safety features like the Type Pressure Monitoring System and the new Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) in its Strong Hybrid variant. Notably, it is the only premium CNG SUV to offer a 6-airbag variant.

The model’s blend of performance, sustainability, and advanced features continues to attract a broad range of buyers, helping Maruti Suzuki to solidify its position in the mid-SUV segment and promoting greener mobility solutions in India.
