Amara Raja to establish Dr R N Galla Chair Professorship at IIT Tirupati Tirupati
Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (ARE&M), a leader in battery solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with IIT Tirupati to create the Dr. RN Galla Visiting Chair Professorship in Advanced Energy Storage Technologies, starting in 2025. This initiative, supported by ARE&M, aims to honor their Founding Chairman, Dr. Ramachandra Naidu Galla, and will recognize outstanding global faculty and scientists in the energy storage field, supporting their research and scholarly work.

The agreement was announced during an event at IIT Tirupati, attended by notable figures, including Shri Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of ARE&M, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of BoG, IIT Tirupati, Sri Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of Axilor Ventures and Co-founder of Infosys, and Dr. Ramadevei Gourineni.

The Visiting Chair Professorship will span a decade from 2025 and will enable the awardees to spend up to eight weeks annually at IIT Tirupati. In this role, they will deliver lectures, conduct workshops, and foster research collaborations within the Institution. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance students' academic experiences and strengthen IIT Tirupati's reputation in the energy storage domain.

ARE&M’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions is evident through this initiative. Aligning with their goal, IIT Tirupati has identified energy storage as one of its key thrust areas and aims to play a crucial role in various national initiatives. The support from ARE&M will bolster the Institute's research capabilities in the energy storage sector.

In a recent development, ARE&M has announced plans to build one of India's largest Giga factories for Lithium-ion cell and battery pack manufacturing in Telangana, with an investment of INR 9,500 crores. The first phase of the factory is expected to become operational this year. Additionally, ARE&M plans to set up 'ePositive Energy Labs,' an innovation and research hub dedicated to advancing R&D in the energy storage space.
