Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has announced the expansion of its accelerator program to include global startups, aiming to support the 'Make in India' and 'Startup India' initiatives. Indian and international startups with innovative automobile manufacturing and mobility solutions can apply for the ninth cohort of the Maruti Suzuki Accelerator.

"By opening the programme to global startups, we are determined to further accelerate the development of innovative technologies relevant to the Indian market," said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India.

The accelerator program offers several benefits to startups, including guidance from mentors within domestic and international startup ecosystems and domain experts from Maruti Suzuki. Participants have the opportunity to implement a paid proof of concept with Maruti Suzuki, go on educational visits to Japan, develop global market connections, and secure funding through the Maruti Suzuki Innovation Fund.

"This expansion will help drive technological advancements and generate good employment opportunities for the youth, thereby contributing to the nation's economic growth," added Takeuchi.

Since its inception in 2019, Maruti Suzuki has screened over 2,000 startups across eight cohorts and engaged with 56 startups. Out of these, 18 startups have been onboarded as business partners, collectively generating over INR 100 crore in business.

Starting with the ninth cohort, the program previously known as the Mobility and Automobile Innovation Lab (MAIL) will now be referred to as the Maruti Suzuki Accelerator.
