The company has been shifting focus to produce larger electric trucks and SUVs, along with affordable and smaller EVs that are being developed by a "skunkworks" team in California.

Ford Motor Co expects to launch a USD 30,000 EV that could be profitable in about two and a half years but did not provide any further details on the vehicle, CNBC reported on Friday.

In April, Ford CEO Jim Farley had alluded to the automaker's expectations of being profitable in the USD 25,000 to USD 30,000 range for EVs.

Ford did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for a comment.
