Hyundai Kona
Hyundai Motor India has discontinued its Kona Electric, five years after its debut. The Kona Electric has been removed from the company's official website.

According to speculations, the decision marks Hyundai's pivot towards its first mass-market electric SUV. Hyundai is expected to launch the Creta EV in 2025.

The Kona Electric featured a 100 kW motor, producing 131 bhp and 395 Nm of torque, coupled with a 39.2 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 453 km on a full charge. However, it faced challenges in the Indian market due to its crossover design amid a growing preference for SUVs. The Indian version also lacked interior upgrades available in international models, leading to underwhelming sales performance. Last month, Hyundai did not sell a single unit of the Kona Electric.

Details about the Creta EV remain scarce, but it has been spotted testing in India. The Creta EV is expected to offer a driving range of 400-500 km. It will compete with models like the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv, and Maruti Suzuki eVX.

Hyundai's plans include launching six EVs in India by 2028, with the Creta EV joining the Ioniq 5 in its electric vehicle lineup. Toyota, Ford, and Volkswagen are also enhancing their EV presence in India, signaling a significant shift towards electric mobility in the market.
