Bajaj Auto, the world’s leading manufacturer of 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers, has inaugurated its new manufacturing plant in Manaus, Brazil. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the state of Amazon, dignitaries, dealers, and business partners. This new facility enhances Bajaj Auto’s global presence, with vehicles from the company now being sold in 100 countries. The plant, located strategically to leverage fiscal benefits and supply chain proximity, has an annual production capacity of 20,000 units in a single shift.

The new plant is situated at Av. do Turismo, nº 13.529 - Bairro Tarumã. Covering an area of 9,600 square meters, it features advanced manufacturing technology, including engine and vehicle assembly and testing facilities. The location in Manaus is advantageous for accessing fiscal incentives and major transportation networks. The plant is designed with automated production lines and integrated quality control systems, employing multiple conveyor and transfer systems to ensure seamless manufacturing stages.

The facility utilises the Protheus ERP system to streamline operations across various departments, including manufacturing, supply chain management, finance, and HR. Initially, it will focus on manufacturing Dominar models, with plans to later introduce Pulsar models. Work on the plant began in June 2023 and it became production-ready within a year. The first phase concentrated on sourcing, assembly, and testing of Dominar models, expanding later to include other product lines.

The new Manaus plant has obtained ISO certification for its production processes, reflecting a commitment to quality and operational excellence. Bajaj do Brasil has also integrated local suppliers, sourcing key motorcycle parts and components from within Manaus. Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd., emphasised the company's strengthened local capabilities.

"With the establishment of our own plant in Brazil we have achieved a quantum shift in our local capability to fulfil demand. Our Dominar brand has received an outstanding reception since its launch 18 months ago. The new manufacturing capabilities will enable us to build a wider distribution network, introduce new products and meet growing expectations of our customers. This plant also signals our commitment to Brazil, to building an ecosystem of partnerships and integrating further into the automotive industry. We are excited to be part of Brazil's growth story and look forward to a prosperous future here," stated Rakesh Sharma.

Bajaj do Brasil has plans to expand the facility to accommodate additional production capacity of up to 50,000 units per year. This expansion is aimed at further solidifying the company’s presence in the Brazilian market and meeting the increasing demand for its products.
