BMW Motorrad recently introduced a new concept motorcycle named R20. It was presented at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and was scheduled from May 24 to May 26, 2024.

The R20 Concept’s standout features are its craftsmanship and the Big Boxer engine.

BMW Motorrad refers to the R20 Concept as a roadster, even though it resembles a cafe racer or bobber. As of yet, the brand has not announced whether or not the R20 Concept will see production.

The motorcycle receives a newly designed fuel tank from the 1970s, finished in a colour known as “hotter than pink”. The Paralever strut, footrest system, and ISR brake callipers are finished in gunmetal, while the cylinder head covers, belt covers and air intake funnels are composed of polished and anodised aluminium.

According to the official Press Release, the R20 Concept motorcycle has a single seat. Fine-grain leather and quilted black Alcantara are used to complete the seat, and BMW has integrated the rear LED tail lamp into the seat itself. LED Daytime Running Lamps with a 3D-printed aluminium ring are included with the LED headlamp.

Furthermore, the air-oil-cooled Big Boxer engine, now with a displacement of 2,000 cc, remains at the heart of the BMW R20 concept. Meanwhile, new cylinder head covers, a belt cover, and an oil cooler were designed for the concept bike to allow the oil pipes to be partially hidden. There are twin loudhailer exhaust pipes with a superb finish.

The chassis has been fully redesigned, with the backbone being a black double-loop main frame formed of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes. The front wheel is a 17-inch spoke, while the rear wheel is a 17-inch black disc. The rear tyre has a size of 200/55, while the front tyre is 120/70.

The BMW R20 concept mixes historic and modern aspects. The swingarm is composed of chrome-molybdenum steel, whereas the Paralever strut is made of aluminium. The exposed driveshaft is derived from the R18 but has been reduced for use in the roadster architecture. Ohlins Blackline suspension components are fully adjustable and work at both the front and rear.

The basic vehicle geometry includes a steering head angle of 62.5 degree and a wheelbase of 1,550 mm. Radially mounted ISR brake callipers at the front and rear handle deceleration, with six pistons at the front and four pistons per brake calliper at the back.
