A knife-wielding man, linked to a murder investigation, attacked four girls in a movie theatre and injured two others at a McDonald’s during his stabbing spree on Saturday in the US state of Massachusetts.

The first incident was reported inside the AMC Braintree 10 movie hall when the man launched an unprovoked attack on four girls aged between 9 to 17 in the city of Braintree. He walked into the complex, past the ticket booth and entered one of the movie theatres without paying for the ticket.

He stabbed the four girls and fled without saying a word. The four were rushed to hospitals in Boston where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

An employee at the movie theatre told media outlets that the suspect was wearing “an oversized trench coat, sunglasses, and a long blonde wig”. Broadcaster CBS Boston said that after running rampage in the movie theatre, the suspect fled to Plymouth, another city in Massachusetts where he attacked a 21-year-old female and a 29-year-old male at a McDonald’s.

The couple suffered stab wounds.

“Preliminary investigation suggests a likely connection to an earlier incident at a movie theatre in Braintree resulting in non-life threatening injuries to four juveniles,” the Massachusetts State Police said.

The suspect then led the police on a car chase and finally was arrested after he crashed his car at a location in the city of Sandwich, also in Massachusetts. The suspected attacker is also believed to be linked to a murder investigation in Deep River, Connecticut. They earlier identified the vehicle from footage obtained from the movie theater and the McDonald’s.

One person was found dead at the scene, and a suspect has been taken into custody in Massachusetts. There is no active threat to the public, Connecticut State Police said after issuing an alert for the suspect, describing him as “armed and dangerous” with a 10-inch knife, CBS Boston reported.
