OpenAI has been tipped to launch its own search engine powered by ChatGPT and now the company has confirmed its ChatGPT event for next week. Google I/O 2024 is expected to be centered around AI and just 24 hours before that, OpenAI will reveal new ChatGPT features and GPT-4 updates in front of the world.

OpenAI has shared the update about the event via its post on X which talks about a live stream of the event, where we could see Sam Altman and Co. showing new tech stuff from the company. It is also likely that OpenAI will use its connections and partnership with Microsoft to use some elements of Bing Search to make its own engine function.

The purpose of launching the new function is to more successfully compete with Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Perplexity, said a Bloomberg report earlier this week.

With the help of this new feature, users will be able to ask questions of ChatGPT and receive replies that draw information from the internet and provide citations. In addition to written answers to questions, the offering could also include visuals where appropriate.

If someone asks ChatGPT, for instance, how to change a lightbulb or doorknob, the answers may contain images that clearly show the process.

OpenAI is under intense pressure to expand the capabilities of its most well-known product as an increasing number of competitors introduce chatbots — and search has proven to be a crucial area of interest for the AI sector. Google has already added AI to its Search and now it is for OpenAI to show it can match with the best.
