OpenAI could enter the search arena to take on Google and Microsoft Bing this month. The company is reportedly planning for an event on May 9 where rumours hint at the big announcement from the ChatGPT-maker.
OpenAI has a strong partnership with Microsoft which could help the company with the platform to build its own search tool. We have seen a previous report from The Information that hinted at the direction in which OpenAI wanted to evolve with its advanced AI expertise that is likely to give it an edge over the existing duo.
The company has also been on a hiring spree for an events team since January which further adds fuel to the fire about its imminent event.
We have also heard reports about OpenAI leveraging Microsoft’s Bing as the base platform to build its search tool. After all, both the companies have a tight equation and they have partnered to great effect so far. It is possible that OpenAI could play the big game and actually offer the AI search as a standalone option along with giving it as a part of the ChatGPT Plus subscription.
OpenAI has got $10 billion funding without giving away a major say in its operations thanks to the non-voting seat on the board. Bing has used the capability of ChatGPT which is also integrated into the Edge browser for users. AI is basically feeding on existing data to train itself on the basic information available on the internet.
OpenAI has not officially shared any plans for its search tool but it is likely that we might see some development in this regard as the company is racing itself to build new AI use cases. We have seen the company release Sora for AI video editing, and going by this trajectory, an AI search engine is the logical part of its growth.
