WATCH: Raphael Varane Bids Farewell To Manchester United Fans After His Last Match At Old Trafford

World Cup-winning footballer Raphael Varane bid adieu to a full-house Old Trafford after Manchester United played their last home game of the ongoing Premier League against Newcastle United on Thursday. The former Real Madrid defender is set to leave the English club at the end of the season when his current contract expires. Varane arrived in Manchester in 2021 after ending a long-standing association with Real Madrid. He has been part of the Red Devils for three seasons and has represented them in 93 games across competitions.

Varane did not take part in the home fixture against Newcastle United due to injury issues. He came onto the pitch after the on-field proceedings came to an end with the hosts securing a narrow 3-2 victory. Upon arriving on the field, Varane was welcomed with loud cheers. He made sure to capture the beautiful moment on camera.

Varane later shared a post on Instagram, thanking the fans. The 31-year-old also shared a video featuring the energetic crowd. The post also accompanied a couple of selfies where Varane captured the electric atmosphere at the Old Trafford.

Varane shared a video message recently, announcing his departure from Manchester United. In the clip, the he was heard saying, “To you guys, supporters of Manchester United it’s been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt. The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man United player was insane, the atmosphere was amazing. I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents.”

During his time at Manchester United, Varane has played 67 matches in the Premier League and has started in 58 of them. Besides spearheading the central defence, Varane has scored two goals, the first of which came in a home victory over Brentford two years ago. His second strike was against Wolves at the beginning of the 2023-24 season. Varane was part of the Manchester United side which secured the club’s first trophy in six years by winning the League Cup last season.
