'Born to Break Records:' Former Inter Miami Player's Big Praise for Lionel Messi

Despite capping off his European football stint, there is no stopping, Lionel Messi. The Argentine legend left Paris Saint-Germain last summer and completed his move to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami in 2023. Messi’s association with Inter Miami has so far proved to be fruitful as he keeps shattering records. Even at the age of 36, the ex-Barcelona icon has already breached the double figures for goals and assists this season. Former Arsenal and Inter Miami footballer Kieran Gibbs recently spoke about Messi’s record-breaking career. Talking to the Inter Miami Weekly Show, Gibbs said that Messi “was born to break records." The former English defender felt that the Argentine maestro had set the standard for global football.

“I’m not sure why we expected any less from the guy. He really is that guy, he was born to break records, he set the standard for world football and it’s just amazing to have him here. How many moments has he given us in this short space of time of him being here. Priceless moments, what a player, it’s a joy to watch and talk about him every week," Kieran Gibbs said.

Having taken part in 29 matches for Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has so far registered 25 goals this season. In the ongoing campaign, Messi has till now claimed 14 goals and 11 assists for the Herons. Last month, Messi set an incredible MLS record for most goal contributions and assists in a single match during Inter Miami’s emphatic 6-2 win against the New York Red Bulls at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Lionel Messi had six goal contributions and five assists in a game to set a new MLS record. He even managed to score and provide assists in six consecutive league games. Messi and his Inter Miami teammate Luis Suarez have scored 12 goals each in this season’s MLS. Inter Miami currently claim the top spot in the Eastern Conference table in the MLS. They have so far claimed 35 points from 18 games this season.

Inter Miami will miss Lionel Messi’s availability in their next match against Philadelphia Union as he is currently busy with international duties. Messi is now focused on Copa America with the Argentine squad.
