Roman Reigns May Skip WWE SummerSlam After Missing From Poster Of Future Event

WWE star Roman Reigns’ absence from the company’s promotional material has led to several doubts over his future. Reigns has not made a WWE appearance since losing his Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes. Speculations of a potential return were quite high as the company gears up for one of its biggest events of the summer, WWE SummerSlam.

The rumours sparked after the Tribal Chief was spotted training with a close friend. But the company has seemingly revised its plans for Reigns’ return. A promotion for the final SmackDown night before SummerSlam was recently released and Reigns was notably absent from the star-studded line-up.

Instead of Reigns, the advertisement featured several other stars like Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, LA Knight, Bayley, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. This suggests that Reigns’ hiatus will likely extend beyond SummerSlam. It, however, should be noted that the Tribal Chief’s omission from the promotional material does not mean that he will not return to the company. His recent intense training session with bodybuilder and actor Kai Greene only suggests that Reigns is preparing for a blockbuster return with the company.

Reigns’ absence from the company was speculated way before WrestleMania 40. Former WWE head writer Vince Russo had talked about how the multiple-time heavyweight champion could be leaving the company for a brief time. He explained that if the company shifted their focus to Rhodes and The Rock it would give Reigns a window to take a break. He said, “That does give Roman the time off. If they go to Cody and Rock, that can give Roman the time off”.

Reigns is one of the biggest stars that WWE has produced in the last decade. While the former Universal Champion has consistently performed in multiple main events, Reigns has operated on a limited schedule. He held the Undisputed Championship for a record 1,316 days before losing the title to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania and has not appeared since. During his absence, Reigns is also working on a heist comedy film named ‘Good Fortune’. The movie is set to be released in late 2024. It features a star-studded cast including actors like Keanu Reeves, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh.
