Mouth Breathing During Sleep Linked To Serious Health Issues: Experts

Many people have the habit of sleeping with their mouths open. According to the doctors, it is an unhealthy way of sleeping. Due to improper breathing at night, many health-related issues can occur. Too much mouth breathing can also be related to sleep apnea. It can cause serious health issues such as high blood sugar levels, diabetes, and heart-related diseases.

People sleeping with their mouths wide open can have certain symptoms. They can include dry mouth, bad breath, snoring, daytime sleepiness, brain fog, sore throat, and poor oral health. According to pulmonologist Rakesh Goyal from S.G.M. Indira Hospital, The symptoms cause reduced quality of sleep.

In children, there are some severe symptoms too. Children with the habit of sleeping with their mouths wide open can have trouble concentrating. They can have issues controlling emotions, ADHD-like symptoms, and excessive tiredness. Due to this habit, their general bodily growth can be hampered too. Some of the symptoms can overlap with ADHD in children.

Some physical issues can cause difficulty breathing. Poor nasal airways generally cause mouth breathing. It can cause less oxygen intake in the body, making breathing more difficult. Nasal congestion forces us to breathe through the mouth. Less oxygen in the body can affect different organs of the body in adverse ways.

To stop mouth breathing, there are some aspects to focus on.
