Is Rice Suitable When On A Weight Loss Diet? This Study May Have The Answer

Rice is one of the major staple foods that Asians consume daily. In almost every corner of Asia, the dominance of rice over other grains explains its importance in the Asian market. With advancement, there are various types of rice available on the market. Polished rice, unpolished rice, and brown rice are some of the main features of rice available on the market. It is consumed by every class of society. There has been a debate on its health benefits and potential harmful effects on life in general.

There are various health benefits to eating rice every day. Rice is rich in carbohydrates. It helps to have energy throughout the day and feel satisfied after eating as well. Rice has many nutrients like manganese, fibre, selenium, magnesium, and vitamin B. Having too much rice also exposes you to the risk of uncontrolled blood sugar.

According to a recent study, “When you don’t eat rice for a month, there is a chance of weight loss due to the lack of calories in the body. And because carbohydrates are not consumed, the level of sugar in the blood will also be under control.”

Rice tends to absorb more arsenic than other crops. Due to soil pollution and too much use of pesticides, many people try to ignore rice. However, boiling rice can reduce arsenic. According to the data from the FDA, cooked rice has a very low amount of arsenic present in it without any side effects.

According to nutritionists, rice has bad carbs, which are also called empty carbs. Apart from carbohydrates, many other nutrients are available, such as iron and vitamin B. For such reasons, rice is considered to be full of nutrients. Per 100 g of white rice, there is 131 kcal of energy, 2.8 g of protein, 0.4 g of fat, 31.1 g of carbohydrates, and 0.5 g of fibre. On the other hand, per 100 grams of brown rice, there is 132 kcal of energy, 3.6 g of protein, 0.9 g of fat, 29.2 g of carbohydrate, 1.5g of fibre, 48 mg of magnesium, and 125 mg of phosphorus.

Excluding rice from the diet has many implications. Lack of rice in the diet can lead to vitamin B deficiencies and certain minerals. So eating rice in moderation can have zero side effects on the body. Still, quitting rice and resuming can spike the blood sugar level in the body.
