5 Tips To Cut Down Your Electricity Bill This Summer

lifestyle desk lifestyle desk | 05-18 00:10

The summer is at its peak with the temperatures soaring high. To tackle the unbearable heat and constant sweating inside their homes, people resort to turning on their air conditions for extensive hours. It is a known fact that using an electrical appliance continuously for long hours can increase the electricity bill. So, how do you tackle the situation, especially if your AC is 6 to 7 years old?

The first thing is to make sure that you repair and get it serviced to avoid a surge in the electric bill. Apart from these, there are a few cool tips that will help in reducing the bill and also ensure proper cooling of the room.

–  Controlled Temperature of the AC

Many don’t know how to use the air-conditioner correctly and because of that, the electricity bill is higher. If you want your AC to provide you with optimum cooling and also reduce the bills, it is important to pay attention to the temperature of the AC that you set it at. Do not keep increasing or decreasing the temperature of the AC again and again. Instead of setting the degree between 19 to 21, which would make the room cooler, but also generate higher bills, you can consider setting it between 24 to 26.

–  Get Blackout Curtains

If your room receives direct sunlight, then it is natural that it will retain heat. To ensure proper cooling of the room, install thick blackout curtains to prevent sunlight from streaming in. If you install light-weight or sheer curtains, the AC will run for a longer time to reach the optimum temperature and the electricity bill will be higher.

– Keep The Room Minimalistic

Avoid keeping too much chunky furniture in the room where you have installed the AC. This will prevent proper air circulation. Also, it will take double the efforts to not just cool down the room, but also the furniture. Hence, if the room is clutter-free, then the temperature will drop quickly.

– Switch On The Fan

For proper cooling and circulation of air, make sure the AC is set at 25 or 26° Celsius. Also, switch on the fan. When the room cools down, you can just turn off the AC or set a timer.

– Regular Servicing

Just like every other electrical appliance, your AC needs to be serviced regularly to ensure proper cooling and working. It’s also sure to check if there’s any gas leak or other problems. Any internal damage may make the AC inefficient and not hold the room properly, which will lead to increased use of electricity and higher bills.
