We face various kinds of skin-related issues, some of which are hard to address. We quickly tend to search for remedies on the internet and apply them without proper knowledge. Searching for solutions on our own to diagnose and address health issues may sometimes turn fatal. The same thing happens with skin. When we see some patches on our skin, we try to solve them with our own remedies. These patches can be an indication to various underlying medical issues, but that’s not always the case. The information that we get online can be misleading sometimes and cause unnecessary worries. Taking proper skin care is very essential. We should always consult experts before resorting to any medicinal remedies on our skin.

Dr Jushya Bhatia Sarin, a well-known dermatologist, posted a video about white patches. In her video, she emphasised on the need for proper consultation before using any kind of medication. She stated that usage of medication without proper consultation may not solve the problem and rather has a higher chance of making the issue more serious. She mentioned that many people have white patches on their skin, but there is nothing to worry about; as some issues can be solved with proper hydration and skincare routines.

What are the conditions that can cause white patches on skin?

  • Vitiligo is a skin disease that causes patches on the skin but can be addressed with proper medication.
  • Skin dryness and roughness can cause patches on the skin, which is a very common phenomenon.
  • White patches can also be caused due to cracks and fissures in the skin.
  • Sometimes, excessive dryness can lead to the formation of blisters or discomfort which causes the white patches.

These patches on the skin mainly happen when our skin gets dehydrated. When the skin becomes excessively dry, it fails to retain water properly. The loss of moisture leads to various skin issues. Skin dryness can lead to an increase in dead cells, causing further thickening and roughness of the skin. To avoid these white patches it is very important to keep the skin hydrated.
