PAN-Aadhaar Link: The Income Tax Department recently issued a reminder, stressing the importance of linking Permanent Account Numbers (PAN) with Aadhaar by May 31, 2024. Failure to comply with this deadline will result in a higher rate of tax deduction at source (TDS) for taxpayers.

It’s essential to know how to do this so you can follow the rules and avoid having more tax deducted from your income if you miss the deadline.

What is PAN-Aadhaar Linking?

PAN is a ten-digit alphanumeric identification provided by the Income Tax Department to taxpayers in India. Aadhaar, on the other hand, is a distinct twelve-digit identification number issued to Indian residents by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The integration of PAN with Aadhaar serves to simplify tax filing processes, eradicate duplicate PAN cards, and enhance transparency in financial dealings.

  • Go to the official income tax e-filing website: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/.
  • Under the “Quick Links” tab, select “Link Aadhaar”.
  • Alternatively, you can directly go to the Aadhaar linking page using this URL: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/eFiling/Services/LinkAadhaarHome.html.
  • On the Link Aadhaar page, fill in the required details in the form.
  • Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and name exactly as stated on your Aadhaar card.
  • If your Aadhaar card only shows the year of birth, not the complete date, remember to check the corresponding box.
  • Additionally, enter the “Captcha Code” for verification.
  • If you possess only your Aadhaar card and not the PAN card, choose the “I have only Aadhaar” option.
  • After completing all necessary fields, click on “Link Aadhaar”.
  • If the information you provided matches the Aadhaar database, your PAN will be successfully linked with Aadhaar.

PAN-Aadhaar Linking Via SMS

Step 1: Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your mobile device. Use the format UIDPAN (10-digit PAN card number), 12-digit Aadhaar card number, followed by a space.

Step 2: You’ll receive an SMS confirming the PAN-Aadhaar link status. The linking is successful only if the taxpayer’s date of birth matches on both documents.

How To Link PAN With Aadhaar Offline

Taxpayers can also go to a PAN Service Provider or Aadhaar enrollment centre to help with the linking process.
