A piece of fake news went viral on social media claiming that the Aadhaar card would not work after June 14 if people had got their cards a decade ago and never updated them. As per reports, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has refuted these claims and clarified that this news is not true.

UIDAI added that this will not happen and even if the Aadhaar cards have not been updated after 10 years, they will keep working. These fraudulent reports regarding the Aadhaar card had originated due to a piece of news some time back. The Centre had extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free till June 14, 2024. Earlier, the deadline was March 14 but the UIDAI extended the free online document upload facility till June 14. This led to the rumours that the Aadhaar cards will be rendered invalid after June 14.

People will get the facility of free updation only if they have updated their Aadhaar numbers online. However, they will be required to pay for updating their Aadhaar card by going to the Aadhaar Seva Kendra. For example, if someone’s phone number is not added to the Aadhaar card, then they need to go to the Seva Kendra for it. In the second case, they will be required to pay charges for the updation.
