Panic grips Jaipur as burning car sans driver speeds through traffic

A driverless car engulfed in flames sped down the elevated road on Ajmer Road towards Sudarshanpura Pulia on Saturday, colliding with a parked bike and forcing motorists to scramble to save their vehicles. The burning car finally came to a halt after hitting a road divider. Though there was traffic on the road, no one was injured.

The videos that went viral on social media show motorcyclists leaving their bikes as they saw the burning car approaching and rushing for safety.

The car was being driven by Jitendra Jangid, a resident of Divya Darshan Apartment in the Journalist Colony of Mansarovar.

According to police, the car was descending the elevated road when Jitendra noticed smoke coming from the car's air conditioning. Concerned, he called his brother, who advised him to check under the bonnet. After stepping out and opening the bonnet, Jitendra discovered that the engine caught fire.

The fire spread quickly, damaging the car's handbrake, causing the vehicle to roll down the slope of the elevated road. It struck a parked bike before coming to a halt after hitting a divider.

A fire tender was dispatched from 22 Godam after receiving the emergency call.

wA police officer said that by the time the fire was doused, the car was completely gutted.
