The new facility will produce the On-Board Power Supply 3-in-1 combo unit, an integrated solution combining an On-Board Charger, DC-DC converter, and Power Distribution Unit (PDU).
Valeo, a global leader in mobility technology, has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art production facility for power electronics products in Pune, India, on September 6, 2024. The 7,000 sq. mt. facility aims to enhance Valeo's capabilities in electrification, meet the growing demand for their products, and contribute to the company's planned deeper localisation and long-term competitiveness in the Indian market.

Attendees

The inauguration was attended by Yann Keraudren, Valeo Power Asia Regional Operations Vice President, Jayakumar G, Group President & Managing Director, Valeo India, and Nitin Chaudhary, Site General Manager, Valeo Pune Plant.

Jayakumar G, Group President & Managing Director, Valeo India, remarked, "The inauguration marks a significant milestone in Valeo’s journey in India. This new facility in Pune is a key element of our strategic plan for deeper localisation and long-term competitiveness in electrification products. It will meet the growing demand from our customers for the On-Board Power Supply 3-in-1 combination unit, comprising an On-Board Charger, DC-DC converter, and power distribution unit. As the EV market in India expands, we are prepared to deliver technology solutions that are both adaptable to the Indian market and cost-competitive."

Integrated power solution

The new facility will produce the On-Board Power Supply 3-in-1 combo unit, an integrated solution combining an On-Board Charger, DC-DC converter, and Power Distribution Unit (PDU). The On-Board Charger recharges the high-voltage battery from the AC grid with power ranges of 7, 11, and 22kW. The DC-DC converter converts power from the high-voltage network to the 12V low-voltage network, charging the low-voltage battery and powering electric devices. The PDU distributes power to all critical electric loads within an electric vehicle, such as traction and auxiliary loads. This compact, cost-effective modular design offers components savings and sharing between the battery, OBC, and DCDC units.

Valeo Pune is also committed to enhancing workforce diversity and sustainability. Over the past five years, the site has employed over 40 individuals with disabilities, showcasing its dedication to an inclusive work environment.

Valeo's initiative towards sustainability

Sustainability is a core aspect of Valeo's operations. The company has installed a 900 kW rooftop solar panel on its existing plant and is expanding its capacity with an additional 700 kW at the new facility. In a further effort to reduce emissions, the site has replaced employee transportation buses with new BS VI-compliant vehicles, introduced two electric vehicles for guest commutes, and implemented various energy efficiency improvements within the plant to lower its carbon footprint.
