New Delhi: Citroen India has unveiled the first images of its latest model, the Citroen Basalt. This vehicle represents India's first mainstream SUV Coupé, blending the elegance of a Coupé with the robust practicality of an SUV to create a unique driving experience. Citroen aims to make mobility accessible for all by focusing on comfort, efficiency, and simplicity, bringing innovative vehicles, services, and solutions to the Indian market.

About the design philosophy behind the new model, Pierre Leclercq, Head of Citroen Design, said, “The New Citroen Basalt is a new type of silhouette, complementing C3 and C3 Aircross in India. It brings together the best of two worlds: the robustness and versatility of a SUV, the roominess and efficiency of a Coupé. The proportions of Basalt mix the strength of SUV codes, with its fenders and claddings, while its fastback silhouette brings out the elegance of a Coupé. The falling roofline is also a nod to iconic models, such as the CX (1974) and more recently, the popular C4.”

The Citroen Basalt stands out with its bold proportions, featuring a distinctive Coupé silhouette characterized by smooth, flowing lines that impart a sense of motion even when stationary.

Its roofline extends all the way to the trunk lid, with a large tailgate providing excellent accessibility while maintaining the stylish coupé design elements.

The vehicle also incorporates strong SUV characteristics such as prominent fenders, which enhance its road presence and provide protection around the wheels. The geometric shape of the wheel arches further reinforces its robust character.

The Citroen Basalt’s unique design is highlighted by several key elements.

The sculpted clamshell bonnet lends a muscular yet elegant touch to the front of the vehicle, boosting its dynamic stance. The logo is connected to the light signature with glossy black detailing and chrome inserts, adding elegance. The air intake grilles are linked by 3D-effect modules, enhancing the vehicle's strength. The body colour surrounding the grilles offers a sophisticated look and visually broadens the vehicle.

The tailgate design also increases the perceived width and adds a sense of spaciousness, with the horizontal wing effect continuing in the rear. Floating blades integrated into the tail lamps widen the visual appearance, while vertical aerodynamic edges in the corners underscore efficiency and SUV character.

Attention to detail is evident in features like the silver skid plates on the lower areas of the front and rear bumpers. These elements offer both a technical signature and protective functionality, merging style with practicality.

Headlights with X-Shaped Split DRLs are a Citroen signature, and on the Basalt, they are paired with LED-Vision projector headlamps situated in the lower part of the front end. The rear headlights feature three light stripes that affirm the new Citroen light signature, with their perceived depth and gradient lines contributing to a striking visual effect.

The colour clips around the rear windows and on the front bumper add a subtle, elegant touch of colour, creating contrast and enhancing the vehicle's body style, a hallmark of Citroen’s design DNA.

Further details on the features and innovative content of the Citroen Basalt will be revealed in the coming days. However, the company said that the brand’s renowned Advanced Comfort principles will be a key aspect, promising a superior driving experience.
